Adonis

Adonis stands as the central figure in The Kingdoms of Ruin series. Originally, he shared a harmonious life with Chloe, who had taken him in from the streets. Their tranquility was shattered with the onset of the Witch Hunt, propelling them from one place to another in a desperate bid to evade capture. Adonis's attachment to Chloe deepened as she raised and educated him. Yet, in the early stages, he voiced thoughts of using magic to eliminate humans, envisioning a peaceful coexistence with Chloe. Tragically, their conversation was abruptly cut short, leading to Adonis's capture due to his unwavering determination. This ultimately resulted in Chloe's untimely demise. Her execution shattered Adonis's perception of humanity. Consumed by fury, grief, and hatred, he swore vengeance, pledging to eradicate humanity in honor of his fallen mentor. While Adonis's life was spared, he spent the ensuing ten years meticulously plotting the precise annihilation of an entire nation. His thirst for retribution extended not only to those who witnessed Chloe's execution but also to those uninvolved, including prisoners. Adonis harbored no qualms about dispatching any witch who dared to oppose him.

Doroka, the one who orchestrated his release from prison, proved to be an exception. Even in the face of Adonis's fury, she remained composed. When Doroka suggested the possibility of resurrecting Chloe, Adonis was overcome with hope, only to have it cruelly snatched away when Eekhout fatally intervened. Adonis's rage surged even further, exacerbated by a military member of the Redia Empire suggesting they should have ended him alongside his master. In his despair, Adonis found himself agreeing, wishing they had.

When given the chance to revive Chloe, he chose instead to bring back Doroka, realizing that Chloe would not have wanted to be used as a weapon against humanity. This decision incited the wrath of Ophelia Clementine. Witnessing Doroka's formidable magic in action, Adonis recognized its potential and proposed a partnership. Doroka declined, prompting Adonis to embark on a devastating rampage, leaving Doroka helpless. However, following the events of the final witch massacre, Adonis's heart began to thaw.

In the battle against Shirousagi, Adonis's focus shifted entirely to safeguarding Doroka, a vulnerability that Shirousagi astutely exploited. After Doroka was left sightless, Adonis grappled with a profound sense of helplessness and frustration. When the tide turned, Adonis summoned Absolute Zero, a technique Chloe had imparted for protecting someone dear, a skill he now wielded.

Unbeknownst to Adonis, Doroka secretly employed a love spell. When Doroka eventually confessed, Adonis brushed it off, asserting that he had sanctioned its use. Yet, he experienced a mental breakdown, grappling with the reason behind his growing closeness to Doroka. Wrestling with grief over Chloe's loss, he reluctantly acknowledged the value of his abilities for the cause of vengeance. He realized that with the love magic, they could eliminate enmity, underscoring Doroka's significance.

Adonis's nurturing and protective side emerged more prominently, leading him to sacrifice one of his eyes to restore Doroka's vision, regretting not doing so sooner.
