I’m starting to think Blackbeard might have inherited some notes, a journal, or even direct knowledge from his father (or some predecessor), meaning he knows exactly what he’s up against. Maybe Imu and the Celestial Dragons have been systematically tracking and erasing the remaining survivors of God Valley. If true, that would reframe a lot of past events in an entirely new light. Honestly, if someone told me years ago that Rocks D. Xebec would turn out to be such a complex and compelling character, I wouldn’t have believed them. History really is written by the victors and the Rocks Pirates are starting to look far different from how they were first portrayed. Even their so-called “betrayal” doesn’t seem all that deep anymore (Ochoku doesn’t count he’s just a rat). Rocks might not have been a moral man, but he was a good pirate and I finally understand why Whitebeard stayed under his flag for so long. It makes Teach’s betrayal sting even more. He’s the embodiment of a dishonorable pirate no loyalty, no code, no soul. Also, Kaido was absolutely hilarious this chapter. Every panel he appeared in was gold.
