I have to be honest I've been hyping garp and respecting him for like 15 years at this point. Back then there was so much slander, about how weak he is. Everyone was saying how he's not even top 10, or was never even as strong as an admiral, despite there having been plenty of evidence. It took his vulgar display of power on pirate island to shut most people up. And then the slander continued of course with people saying how he's a dog of the celestial dragons and the elders. And even this has now been well and truly burried. And I love it. Garp is simply an absolute badass, who does not blindly follow orders, but does what he thinks is right, and behind the scenes probably built up sword to one day replace the old navy.

I just have so much respect for this character. I wonder if garp being the hero of the navy and being given credit for killing rocks is partially because after this sengoku needed to find a way to make garp too much of a hero for the five elders to decide to fire or kill. I think it's rather that someone had to take credit for killing rocks. I doubt sengoku would want to hype someone like garling, and imu's existence cannot be revealed of course. There’s really nothing you can do about the slander anyway. Because they’re just hating for the hell of it. Notice how they constantly move the goalpost every time? That’s just it, really. It’s not about those claims of righteousness or whatever. They just find it hard to believe that there are other acceptable ways to solve problems. To them, a head-on collision is always the only way. For something as complicated as this, they sure are narrow-minded. You’d think after the past couple of chapters they’d realize things, especially knowing the outcome of the situation and finally understand, at least. But I can already imagine them saying something like, “uh, he still stayed being a marine,” as if they don’t actually know that all the strongest characters literally tried to stop the enemy here, but nothing really changed. They just ignore that part and want garp to sacrifice his life for basically nothing.
