I guess the promise could refer to what rocks told imu in the room of flowers. But he promised to "Come back right here". But that promise isn't being kept. I definitely think that davy jones swore to kill imu someday.

It's not revealed directly yet. I would guess the davy clan is related in some way to the d. Clan, but it seems like the davy clan may be a family line or blood related. I have a hunch that the d. Clan is an alliance is a clan similar to luffy, sabo and ace, where they come together and call each other family but are from different cultures and races.
