Monkey D. Luffy - Egghead Arc

After they departed Wano Country, a beaten up Luffy was locked up in a cage by a furious Nami, who scolded him for his recklessness and carelessness in engaging in the Kid Pirates' and Heart Pirates' descent from Wano, which put the whole crew in danger while Luffy, in his competitive demeanor, did not realize the jeopardy of such a maneuver. Luffy was however, later freed from the cage after he apologized and then listened to Robin as she was reading the newspaper out loud to the crew. When she mentioned the news of the Levely events, in which Sabo was accused of murdering Cobra, Luffy remarked that Sabo would never do such a thing. When hearing upon Vivi gone missing during the Levely, Luffy suggested they would set out for Arabasta, but after being corrected by Zoro that Vivi was last seen in Mary Geoise so Luffy suggested that they head there instead, only to be once again shut down by Zoro who reminded him that they would walk straight into the enemies' dent. Luffy is then reminded of Ace once saying to him that Ace had his own adventures and that he would be trusted to handle himself until he would need help. Zoro then argued that they should have the same confidence in Vivi's, only to be taunted by Luffy, Nami, Chopper, and Sanji. Luffy was then asked by Robin if he wanted to hear more of the news but replied that he left it in her care and only to be alerted if something big happened. Luffy then laid down and told everyone about how his dream is so no one would have to give up their freedom and have it taken away like it happened to him as a kid. He then told everyone about the day Sabo, Ace and Luffy made an oath and told everybody what he told them, with the crew reacting with measures of surprise, disbelief and wonder and Usopp even telling him what Luffy wants is impossible despite his beliefs. Luffy then realized he never told anyone what he had told to Ace, Sabo and Shanks, but says that at the end of the dream that is what he wants.

Luffy in Final Saga

Days later, the crew was sailing close to a Winter Island when they encountered a gigantic Warm Eddy, with a person inside. Just as Zoro cuts the current, Chopper, who walked outside wearing his new amigasa, was swept away by the resulting wind and Luffy, who tried to save him, was swept away as well. In the process of being blown away, he also caught the person recently freed from the eddy, who turned out to be Jewelry Bonney. While still in the air, she warned the crew of the threat below, just in time for the Straw Hats to evade the jaws of the Mecha-Shark. Jinbe then jumped overboard to save the three Devil Fruit users, but the four were separated from the Thousand Sunny when the Mecha-Shark fired cannons at them. Jinbe then swam them to the nearest island, where they dried off, and Bonney introduced herself. She explained that they were on Dr. Vegapunk's island base, Egghead and that she came without her crew as she had personal business with the genius professor, stating that he had turned her father into a mindless cyborg, and that she wanted answers, or revenge.

Iñaki Godoy As Monkey D. Luffy
Iñaki Godoy is a Mexican actor. For Netflix, he is known for his role in the Mexican crime-drama soap series, Who Killed Sara?, in which he portrays Bruno. He also portrays Monkey D. Luffy in the upcoming adaptation of the manga series One Piece, and Juan Ruiz in the series The Imperfects.

The four then entered the island, where they were bedazzled by the futuristic sights of giant robots, aliens and parfaits, until they interacted with them and found out they were all holograms. When a large robot girl talked to them, Luffy punched her out of frustration thinking she was also a hologram, only to find out she was real when he was punched back into an Automatic Cooking Machine, which the pirates delightedly started playing with. The large girl introduced herself as Dr. Vegapunk and explained the various technologies such as the Cooking Machine and her Light-Pressure Gloves before leaving them to continue her job of violence. After eating their fill, Luffy found and damaged a Trancos, allowing the four of them to change clothes. However, soon after a Pacifista police attacked them for stealing the food and clothes, and when Luffy attempted to fight back, Bonney intervened, tearfully revealing that her father was none other than Bartholomew Kuma.Thankfully, the four managed to evade the cyborg detection with Bonney's ability, who turned Luffy and Chopper into elderly people while turning Jinbe and herself into children. As they hid in a junkyard, Jinbe recounted to the other three of what he knew about Kuma, such as how he was the king of Sorbet Kingdom, but was driven out due to his tyranny, became a pirate, joined the Revolutionary Army and was eventually captured, but was released by Vegapunk to be one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea on the condition he becomes the scientists guinea pig for experiments in cloning and body modification. However, as Bonney rummaged through the junkyard, and finding a beam saber in the process (much to Luffy's delight), she denied several of these claims, believing they forcefully experimented on him, and while revealing that her father is of a special race, restored the Straw Hats to their original age.

The four eventually stumbled upon an ancient-looking but highly advanced robot, which an excited Luffy, alongside Chopper, wanted to ride. However, they could not find a place to ride on it and thought that it was automatic, causing them to try and make it move. Suddenly, the machine let out a huge impact, which Luffy was shocked by, and a man appeared stuck in the machine, begging for help. Luffy went to the man and helped free him. The man, who turned out to be Vegapunk, thanked Luffy and recognized him as Dragon's son. He then showed Luffy and Chopper how to make their shoes fly, though they ended up flying too high in the process.

Nami

Being the assigned navigator of the Straw Hat Pirates, Nami is responsible for evaluating the direction that the ship goes as they sail further into the sea. Nami also tends to act as the crew's de facto treasurer, managing the crew's money and allocating spending money whenever they arrive at a new location. Nami is an accomplished and agile polearm user. Knowing she lacks the raw strength of most of her crewmembers she uses her cunning and specially designed weapons to combat opponents who are her physical superiors. While she tries to avoid combat as much as possible, when the need arises Nami gives her all in battle and has defeated some fearsome fighters.

The Cat Burglar

Besides Sanji, the crew's trained chef, Nami is also the only crew member known to possess even basic cooking knowledge (likely learned from Bell-mère). Prior to Sanji joining the crew, Nami agreed to cook for a fee, and in his absence, she reprises this role. Initially, she went back to charging money to perform this service, but after Luffy disastrously chooses to cook for the crew in order to avoid paying her most of his allowance, she has agreed to cook free of charge, she was able to cook a delicious fish by following one of Sanji's recipes left behind in the Thousand Sunny. Nami possesses a strong enough will to be able to withstand a burst of Big Mom's Haoshoku Haki. Nami is a highly skilled navigator and an extremely talented cartographer. Arlong considered her skills on par with the fish-men "superiority" since they were superior to any fish-man's. When Luffy destroyed her room at Arlong Park, both bathymetric and geographic maps were seen, proving that Nami has a wide variety of cartographic skills. Apart from her navigational skills, Nami has also proven herself to be an excellent thief and a master pickpocket. She is able to take small items, such as keys, without her victims noticing, a skill she honed from a young age. Her most notable thieving feat was shown just before she left her village. At the harbor, she stole numerous wallets from the villagers saying goodbye to her while she was running past them, and among the villagers and the Straw Hats, plus Johnny and Yosaku, no one noticed until she revealed what she had done.

Emily Rudd As Nami

In the One Piece live-action series, Emily Rudd plays Nami, the navigator of the Straw Hats who can predict the weather. Nami is also a mercenary because of the influence of Arlong who controls her hometown, Kokoyashi village. Even though Arlong has been defeated, Nami's love for Belly never goes away. Emily's beautiful face with short hair makes her look suitable as Nami. At the beginning of this live-action series, a new story will likely run in the East Blue plot where Luffy will meet several pirates such as Buggy, Kuro, Alvida, Arlong, and Don Krieg.

She now uses this skill to steal from other pirates, and occasionally government employees, more often than not sneaking aboard their ship or base and taking all their valuables while they are distracted by some fight. Her skill at thievery has even been recognized by the World Government and has earned her the epithet "Cat Burglar".

Here are some trivia facts about Nami:

  • Nami's name means "wave" in Japanese, which is fitting as she is a navigator.
  • Nami is skilled at cartography, which she uses to create detailed maps of the various locations the Straw Hat Pirates visit during their journey.
  • She was originally a member of the villainous Arlong Pirates, but later joins the Straw Hat Pirates after they defeat the Arlong Pirates and free her hometown of Cocoyasi village.
  • Nami is one of the strongest characters of the straw hats when it comes to fighting. She uses a Clima-Tact, a weapon that allows her to control the weather.
  • Nami is often considered to be the "brain" of the Straw Hat Pirates and often serves as the voice of reason when the crew gets into trouble.
  • Nami's backstory, particularly her traumatic childhood, is one of the main focus of the series. Her mother died, her village was being extorted, and she was forced to work for the Arlong Pirates for 8 years, where she plotted to take revenge.
  • Nami is one of the most popular character among the series fanbase.
  • Nami's voice actress in the Japanese version is Akemi Okamura and the English version is by Caitlin Glass.

Vinsmoke Sanji

As the cook of the Straw Hat Pirates, Sanji provides an extremely valuable service to his crewmates. He is one of the crew's top four fighters along with Luffy, Zoro, and Jinbe. Sanji is also a member of the "Monster Trio" among the Straw Hat Crew due to his great strength. He currently has the fourth highest bounty in the crew after Luffy, Zoro, and Jinbe, at 1,032,000,000 Beli. Alongside Jinbe, Sanji is one of two members of the crew to fight without weapons or Devil Fruit powers in combat, until acquiring the Raid Suit, but then abandoned it as his dormant genetic enhancements awakened. While Luffy often fights the strongest enemies, Sanji and Zoro often end up fighting against enemies considered the second or third primary threat. On occasion, he would take on an opponent weaker than Zoro's; an example of this being Sanji fighting against Jabra of CP9, who had a slightly lower Doriki than Kaku, who lost to Zoro.

Black Leg Sanji

However, Sanji's and Zoro's opponents could be often characterized as matching (or countering) their particular fighting styles, such as his fight against another leg-based martial artist, Mr. 2, during the Arabasta Arc, while Zoro fought against Mr. 1, an assassin who ate a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that made him a Fullbody Bladed Human resistant to swords. Although Sanji and Zoro usually let their rivalry impede their fighting performances, they have proven to be a near-unstoppable force if they agree to cooperate for the battle. As a member of the infamous Vinsmoke Family, Sanji was raised and trained from an early age alongside the rest of his siblings in warfare and combat. Their father modified them while their mother was still pregnant in order to endow them with superhuman abilities. However, due to Sora's own attempt at ensuring her sons would keep their emotions using a counter-drug, Sanji's genetic modifications were repressed, and he was born a normal human.

Because of this, Sanji could not keep up with Germa's extremely grueling training, resulting in his father's renouncement of him. However, he ended up encountering Zeff, a pirate captain turned chef who would teach him his own kick-based martial art, resulting in him attaining natural superhuman physical abilities and skills that have proven efficient against many powerful opponents. After joining the Straw Hat Pirates, he could defeat fish-men like Kuroobi, powerful assassins like Mr. 2, and mighty CP9 agents like Jabra. As a result, he earned a bounty of 77,000,000 Beli before exiting Paradise.

Taz Skylar
Taz Skylar will be bringing the Straw Hat's chef, Sanji, to life and a new compilation clip shows how high Skylar can kick in preparation of bringing the fan-favorite anime character to life.

Since returning from his training in the Kamabakka Kingdom and entering the New World, Sanji's strength grew exponentially and he has become an even more a powerful combatant, able to fight against some of the strongest pirates and fighters there. After the two-year timeskip, he became capable of breaking the stronger-than-steel neck of a Pacifista with a single Diable Jambe-enhanced kick, whereas his leg would have been seriously injured after using the attack twice on a Pacifista pre-timeskip. Against Charlotte Oven, Sanji could break his collarbone with a simple kick while moving too fast for his eye to follow, despite him being gifted with the sturdiest body of all the Charlotte sons. On Fish-Man Island, his kicks could injure the enormous fish-man Wadatsumi, who size even surpassed that of an ancient giant, and dealt him a critical blow. Sanji proved to be more than a match against his genetically modified siblings, Niji and Yonji, despite their bulletproof exoskeletons, breaking the former's jaw and smashing the latter's cheek in respectively, and only later losing against them on purpose due to their threats against Zeff. On top of the Whole Cake Chateau, he blocked a lightning-enhanced attack from the Emperor Big Mom with one of his techniques and Luffy's assistance.

During the Raid on Onigashima, he (alongside Marco) could hold off two All-Stars of the Beasts Pirates, King and Queen, while buying enough time for Zoro to recover. Afterwards, Sanji could temporarily overwhelm and fight on par with Queen, a top henchman of the Emperor Kaidou, and an Ancient Zoan user with extensive cybernetic enhancements and a bounty of 1,320,000,000 Beli. After wearing his Raid Suit for a third and final time, Sanji's latent genetic modifications were awakened during the same battle, which allowed him to gain the advantage over the All-Star and finally defeat him using a powerful combination of blue flaming kicks.

As a former prince of the Germa Kingdom, it can be assumed that Sanji would have had the same political and military power possessed by the rest of his family. However, due to his decision to renounce his title and status as a royal (as well as his father's decision to cast him out of the family), Sanji has willingly given up any and all claims to these kinds of advantages. Despite this, it has been shown that he still retains political authority over the Germa Kingdom's subjects as shown during his childhood, where the rest of the kingdom treated him with the same respect as they treated the rest of his family (despite his family's own poor treatment of him), and when he returned to the kingdom after 13 years, they continued to do so.

Here are a few pieces of trivia about Sanji:

  • Sanji's full name is Vinsmoke Sanji, he is a member of the royal Vinsmoke Family, a group of genetically enhanced humans and the third son of Vinsmoke Judge
  • Sanji is a skilled chef and is known for his culinary skills, he's also a powerful fighter and proficient in the use of "Black Leg Style" a unique fighting style based on using powerful kicks.
  • Sanji's dream is to find the "All Blue," a legendary sea where all the fish of the world exist, and to be the chef of the Pirate King's crew.
  • Sanji is one of the founding members of the Straw Hat Pirates, and the fourth crewmate to join.
  • Sanji is known for his chivalrous and gentlemanly behavior, particularly towards women. He will often go out of his way to help and protect women, even if it puts himself in danger.
  • He has a bounty of 177,000,000 berries before joining the straw hat pirates, his nickname is "Black Leg" due to the color of his trademark cigarette and the color of his legs when he uses his fighting style.
  • He's a heavy smoker, and would always smoke when thinking or in a critical situation.
  • Sanji's favorite food is curry, which he likes to make with various meats and vegetables.
  • In the series, Sanji is known to be one of the strongest members of the Straw Hat Pirates, he's a skilled hand-to-hand combatant and a powerful fighter. He's also a key member of the crew, using his knowledge of cooking and his sharp senses to help the Straw Hats on their journey.

Roronoa Zoro

Zoro has devoted his life to becoming the world's strongest swordsman. Even before joining the crew, he was well-renowned for his outstanding abilities and accomplishments in battle. His skills drastically improved after becoming the combatant of the Straw Hat Pirates and entering a two-year training period under the "Strongest Swordsman in the World", Dracule Mihawk. By the time he met Luffy, Zoro had established himself as a fearsome bounty hunter in the East Blue, so much so that Koby had heard he was a "demon in the form of a man". His accomplishments in hunting pirates were significant enough to earn him the epithet of "Pirate Hunter", which he remains known for even after becoming a pirate. After his crushing loss to Dracule Mihawk, he vowed never to lose again. Since joining the crew, Zoro has defeated several mighty adversaries.

Ronoroa Zoro

Alongside Luffy and Sanji, Zoro is considered one of the Monster Trio of the Straw Hats due to his strength. Zoro's infamy has frequently been treated as second only to his captain, and in some instances, he has even been mistaken as the leader of the Straw Hats due to his more extensive reputation; onlookers have also wondered how he could not be the captain after seeing demonstrations of his power. During the crew's journey, Zoro has come to possess some of the most legendary swords in history and has used them to both improve his skills and develop the most devastating attacks.

Zoro was the second Straw Hat to receive a bounty, and for much of the crew's existence, his bounty has been the second highest. Zoro was identified as a Super Rookie after obtaining a bounty of over 100,000,000 beli before reaching the Sabaody Archipelago; he was only one of two non-pirate captains (alongside Killer) of the Worst Generation to have that distinction.

Mackenyu As Zoro

Weaker people are easily intimidated by Zoro, as Koby remarked that he had a "demonic aura" at Shells Town even as he was tied up and starved of food for over a week. This ability has held even in the New World, as when Monet came to suddenly realize the degree of power and killing intent Zoro had, she froze in place as Zoro charged her. After Zoro intentionally performed a harmless attack, she then became seized by fear to such a degree that she was unable to reform her Logia body to its normal state. When Zoro gets serious in a battle, he usually dons his black bandanna on his head, though whether or not it has any real psychological effect on his abilities is uncertain.

Ever since entering the New World, he has rarely been wounded or given a serious challenge, defeating Monet with his sheer strength alone without Haki, frightening her to the point of being unable to control her elemental form. His first genuine challenge was a short confrontation with one of the Admirals, Fujitora, who described his slash attack as ferocious despite being held down by gravitational force. As the first showcase of his greatly improved strength and skills, Zoro defeated Pica, one of the Warlord Donquixote Doflamingo's top three elite officers, in a couple of moves after slicing apart his colossal stone body and figuring out the nature of his Devil Fruit abilities.

Zoro suffered his first serious wound in Wano against Kamazo the Manslayer, albeit because he avoided a surprise assault from Gyukimaru, while still managing to defeat the assassin using a single attack (without Shusui at the time). During the Raid on Onigashima, he faced off against the Emperor Kaidou, famed as the world's Strongest Creature, in both his beast and hybrid forms; wounding him despite the tremendous toughness of his body, then giving him his second scar since Kozuki Oden, earning his acknowledgment. In his battle against King, Kaidou's right-hand man and the Beasts Pirates' head All-Star, Zoro was able to apply advanced Haoshoku Haki and Busoshoku Haki to his three swords, dealing significant damage to and then defeating the exceedingly resilient lunarian despite being gravely wounded and close to exhaustion, whereas the former was closer to top condition. Due to these events, his bounty was raised to 1,111,000,000 Beli; the second highest among the Straw Hat Pirates, ranking just below his captain, Monkey D. Luffy, who was recognized as an Emperor.

Here are a few pieces of trivia about Zoro:

  • Zoro's full name is Roronoa Zoro. He's named after a real-life pirate known as François l'Olonnais.
  • Zoro is a skilled swordsman and is known for his use of three swords in battle. He is also skilled in the use of Santoryu, a style that allows him to wield three swords simultaneously, one in each hand and one in his mouth
  • Zoro's dream is to become the world's greatest swordsman, and is constantly seeking to improve his skills and techniques. He's also a fearsome pirate who's ready to take on any opponent and has a strong sense of loyalty to his friends and crewmates.
  • He's one of the founding member of the Straw hat pirates and the first crewmate of Luffy.
  • Zoro is known for his quiet and reserved personality, and is often seen meditating and training in his spare time. Despite his stoic nature, he has a strong sense of honor and is fiercely loyal to his friends and captain, Luffy.
  • He has a nickname "Pirate Hunter" for his reputation for hunting and defeating pirate crews. He had a bounty of 60,000,000 before joining the straw hat pirates.
  • He's also a frequent drinker and smoker.
  • Zoro's favorite food is sakura-ika (a type of squid), which is also his least favorite food when it's not cooked to his liking.
  • In the series, He is one of the strongest member of the Straw hat pirates, if not the strongest and is considered as one of the top-tier fighters in the world of One Piece.
